no more fucking poetry that world is done we've sold off all the metaphors we've pawned the moon, the sun and laid them in the ground beside our old imagination beside the corpse of history just stories that they tell to us not written by the victors because no one is victorious the ghost of 1984 nothing means much anymore the future is so bright that we've all been blinded by it the old world is gone it's a new world, but there's no bravery we've gotta find a new life we must be free oh you're bored of politics? well so the fuck am i but just because you close your eyes won't make it go away oh the party's over? well what a tragedy but did you really that kindness could be replaced by greed? if you hide your head beneath the sand the rest of you is going to end up underneath the ground if you're only watching your own back you won't even notice when the television screens go black we've gotta find a new life
2.
you think you've got us fooled with your eloquent talk but your finger's on the button, crossed behind your back showing so much compassion in the public eye but what about 30,000 more that you've sent to die? a peace prize in war time and more tears for prime time more politicians, more politicians more politicians, more politicians more politicians, now another one dead first Jack, then Bobby, now the last one's Ted keep us distracted from the lies that we're fed the stink is always different but the herring's still red it's the same old trick, just the same bullshit and nothing changes for anyone but the rich what's more important? what have you done? killed a generation or just one man? same man, same God, same fraud, same shit more politicians, more politicians more politicians, more politicians more politicians, now another one dead first Jack, then Bobby, now the last one's Ted keep us distracted from the lies that we're fed the stink is always different but the herring's still red the same war in Afghanistan a brand new war in Pakistan more money for the pentagon and shit for education shit for welfare nation shit for what we've got and shit for men who fought but if shit is all they spew then what we gonna do? what we gonna do? what we gonna do? what we gonna do? what we gonna do, are we gonna keep voting? what we gonna do, are we gonna keep shouting? what we gonna do, are we gonna keep waiting? what we gonna do? what we gonna do? i'll tell you mister big man: if i gotta kick your head in to make you fucking get it, well then i'll have to fucking do it 'cause i wanna make you pay and if that's the only way remember, you made this system. you did it, not me. i never did like violence but i hate your fucking state and i won't wear your chains even if i have to fight!
3.
the whole fucking world is shit and so is everybody who lives in it right down from the baby sucking on a tit to the miner dying in a mining pit but something's gotta be done and we're gonna have to be the ones to do it when the revolution comes are you just gonna sleep through it?

two party system, two party system i took my shot... but i missed 'em one party system, one party system i took off my drawers... 'cause i shit them no party system 1, 2, 1, 2 always just the 1, 2 marching in line, no we haven't got a voice 3, 4, 5, 6 will it make a difference? well won't it be better than the illusion of choice? No party system! No party system! No party system! No party system! smiling faces greet him, handshakes and a warm words a decent man, a citizen, they hand him his card the pen feels snug in her hand, as she draws the curtain and steels herself to sign away her self-determination 1, 2, 1, 2 always just the 1, 2 marching in line, no we haven't got a voice 3, 4, 5, 6 will it make a difference? well won't it be better than the illusion of choice? No party system! No party system! No party system! No party system! in the political theatre, it's the final curtain call and if we just sit and stare then it's the end for us all this vast farce mounted for the public's entertainment the program of power, while we watch it they maintain it distraction for the masses, one more reality show well, of course it's fucking real, what'd you think, this was joke? but the jokes on all of us because we've let them make the choice if it's left and right, the same old shit, then we've already lost the say they represent us, that we're the one's with the power we choose who will rise and who will fall but it's no choice at all because they represent nothing but their own little clan and they're all in it together, the brotherhood of man the lesser of two evils, well i've heard it all before and look where it got us! and we've got the same fate in store because the money keeps flowing, and we keep voting and nothing's changing but the names on the ballots but i won't vote the line anymore i won't vote against my conscience anymore if there's a real choice to be made then i'll make it to be free.... looking out from the inside we can't see that there's another way for it to be "i'm part of something larger, it's my duty," oh, that's shit when you gonna realize the whole thing's been rigged? we feel involved so we let ourselves be fooled we're complicit in our own oppression... we're their tools every time we climb into that little box we've given them our blessing to grind us down even further,to steal our rights, to spend our money on war, death, pollution to implement the final political solution we don't want to have to think, and we don't want real freedom because then we'd be guilty, we'd have to take responsibility for our own lives and they've taught us to be weak, so we can't function without rules and we won't know what to do when the system finally falls but if we can get up off our knees and face the future without fear then maybe we can find the strength to make our stand right now, right here.

how can i find the truth when i can't even find a job? we're too busy making things easier to notice what we've lost okay, okay how can i sell myself when i don't even know the cost? we're too busy making things cheaper to find out what we've lost okay, okay the elevator's waiting but we're still on the ground floor is it the door that keeps us out or is it something more? we've got a lot to do but it's not shit, i know, i know the endless loop repeating while the elevator's waiting Human dignity and self-respect cannot be constrained by the laws of nations nor can they be destroyed by the soulless technology with which we surround ourselves progress is just one more empty notion thrust upon us by this so-called society while we drift further and further from the essence of a compassionate life we think we've got the answer but we've got to face reality we've got it the wrong way around invention is the mother of necessity! necessity! well what do you need? what do you really need? they're not selling the product, it's the con Edison knew this selling an infrastructure, selling a need one used to serve so many, now everyone's got their own do you even know how hard it is to find a public telephone? the clock outside the bank, the church bells in the square we've cut the cord of community, but no one seems to care how can i find the truth? i'm just a human being being human and I never did like elevators. I'd rather take the stairs.

was there ever a time when everything turned out right, when we didn't have to fight for every breath? was there ever a time when we didn't feel this way, when life didn't just mean hanging on day to day? was there ever a place where we were really safe, or was it all just the ignorance of youth? when you gonna realize? when you gonna realize what you gotta do? when you gonna realize it ain't about you? when you gonna realize? was there ever a world that really cared for us, or were we just too blind to see the truth? was there ever a song that really meant something, or did we sing just because we felt alone? how can we fight for justice, fight for love, fight for peace when we're so full of despair? when you gonna realize? when you gonna realize what you gotta do? when you gonna realize it ain't about you? when you gonna realize? love is not a plaything for the rich and powerful and hate, well you taught us hate, we never had a choice at all born into a system of institutionalized greed but it's just another effect, a product of your social policies when you gonna realize what's at stake? isn't it obvious? isn't it obvious? isn't it obvious? what the fuck? isn't it obvious? isn't it obvious? when you gonna realize what you've gotta do? when you gonna realize it ain't about you? a million people in the same position a billion people, and all of them wishing that they could be you, but it's easy to be free when you're part of the problem, just a leaf on the tree while we're being punished for accepting a fate we don't want to begin with we never asked to be part of this I don't want to be part of this we never asked to be part of this i refuse to be part of this
